Wissenswertes
useful information
Passerines are rather small birds compared to the representatives of other families. Passerines, Passeriformes, are the most species-rich order (about 5700 species) of mostly nest-building and often arboreal birds, comprising 73-74, according to a stricter view, 104 families and about 60 percent of all bird species on earth; 7.5-110cm tall. All passerines are altricial. The young hatching with closed eyes (sparrow) bar their open jaws, which are always conspicuously colored, to the feeding parents; this means that the food can be administered accurately in the semi-darkness of the nest box or bush. Insect, grain and omnivore. These include the broad-mouthed (Eurylaimidae), the 13 families of screaming birds (Clamatores), the lyrebirds (Menuridae), the thicket birds (Atrichornithidae) and, as the most extensive sub-order, the large group of songbirds (Oscines, Passeres) with the vast majority of families. Many passerines of the high latitudes are migratory, while sedentary birds are mainly found in species from the subtropics and tropics.
Below I show you, divided into 23 families of the passerine order, the pictures I have collected over the years, each with German and English names.
